One decision I’m glad I made before things got weird

Hi Reader!

Six years ago, I blew up my life.

I left a home I loved, a career I had built, and a community that felt like mine, all to move back “home.”
Closer to family. More affordable. A better place to raise a baby.

Except… that version of home didn’t exist anymore.

Within a month, housing prices exploded. The world shut down. The pandemic hit creatives especially hard.

And like a lot of photographers, I panicked.

I felt forced to pivot into anything and everything to make money as a professional creative. No side hustle was too out there. Wild ideas? Worth a shot!

FaceTime sessions, micro weddings, Zoom consultations, and online courses for everyone stuck at home…

We all spent hours coming up with creative ways to show up for your audience and pay the bills, all while the world was unraveling from six feet outside your front door.

Think back to your first “oh shit” moment.
The first cancellation.
The first lockdown email.
That sinking feeling in your stomach.

Did you ever wish you could peek into the future and just confirm that you were going to be okay?

I did too.

What I didn’t realize at the time was that one quiet part of my business never stopped working for me.

As my wedding photography bookings dried up fast, the branch of my business that licensed stock photography online hummed along in the background. Photographs I had taken years prior are what kept my family afloat when all else seemed doomed for the foreseeable future.

The best part? Those images continue to pad my bank account. Today, I continue to earn more each year licensing photos that would’ve died a sad, dusty, .jpeg death sitting on my hard drive.

That, my friend, is the power of passive income.

Yesterday, inside my membership, we just began Day One of the Stock Photography Reset.

It’s a 30-day reset designed to help you build this income stream in a way that doesn’t take over your life.

Every single day, you get one clear task.
We're focusing on small actions that stack.

The first part is about getting curious about how stock photography actually fits into your life right now.

We focus on clarity, confidence, and reconnecting with who you are as an artist and why you picked up a camera in the first place.

Then we'll move into creating and organizing in a way that supports consistency.

There are two paths, one for beginners and one for photographers who’ve already been uploading but feel stuck, so you’re never doing busy work that doesn’t apply to you.

If you’ve been craving a fresh start with stock photography, or a steady way to add income to your creative business, this is where I’d start.

You can join Stock Photo Besties for $33 and jump into the Reset immediately.

Not sure if this is right for you? Try it out for free!

Here’s what Day one looks like inside the Stock Photography Reset:

DAY 1

Day one is intentionally simple. We're easing into it.

There are two paths. Choose the one that matches where you’re at right now:

Beginner Path:

Watch my Intro to Stock Photography lesson.

After watching, grab a notebook or open a fresh note on your phone and jot down:

– Why stock photography is calling you right now
– What’s been holding you back from fully starting (time, confidence, clarity, something else)
– What would “showing up consistently” actually look like for you this season

Advanced Path:

Rewatch or skim the Intro to Stock Photography lesson.

After watching, grab a notebook or open a fresh note on your phone and reflect on:

– What hasn’t been working in your current stock process
– What you want to feel differently this year (more focused, more intentional, less scattered)
– If you narrowed your focus this year, what would you lean into?

xo,
Aubrey

PS: If your first thought is “this sounds great, but I don’t have time,” you're exactly who this reset was built for. Thirty minutes a day. Not forever. Just enough to create something that you can return to again and again.

Hi Reader! I want to tell you a quick story about something I set my mind to this year. This past year I applied to a new premium stock agency, The Luupe. Years ago, someone who worked at Getty mentioned The Luupe to me. Very casually and very discreetly, they said they believed it was the future of stock photography. I remember looking it up and immediately thinking there was no way I could ever get in. After a few years of proving to myself that I could do a lot of things I once thought...

Happy New Year Reader! Later this week, I’ll be sharing exactly how I worked toward my stock photography goals this year. But before that, I want to talk about something important. If earning from photo licensing is on your 2026 vision board, getting your work into premium stock matters. A lot. Think about it from the brand side for a second. A brand spends tens of thousands of dollars on a campaign. Strategy, copy, colors, creative direction. Every decision is intentional. Then imagine they...

Heads Up: Stock Photography Academy is open for enrollment! If you don’t want to get any more emails about it, click here to say, “Please turn off all emails about Stock Photography Academy.” You’ll still get my weekly newsletter. Stock Photography Academy is 50% off (Sale ends Tonight at midnight.) Hi Reader! I want to share a story that perfectly shows what can happen when a photographer finally has clarity, direction, and a community behind them. Meet Shilpa. She joined Stock Photography...
