No new shoots. Just start here.

Hi Reader,

This past Monday, I had a little panic moment when I opened my Profitable Stock Planner and saw July staring back at me.

It’s officially "go time" for uploading fall content to my stock agencies.

On one hand, I’m proud. I went all out last fall and planned so many seasonal shoots.
On the other hand... I’ve got work to do.

So I went back to basics.

Every morning this week, I’ve logged onto my computer, opened Lightroom, and set a timer for 20–30 minutes. That’s it. No marathon editing sessions. Just consistent daily progress.

  • Monday: Edited a full Halloween set of my daughter, niece, and nephew.
  • Tuesday: Flagged images by agency, exported everything.
  • Wednesday: Keyworded like a boss.
  • Thursday & Friday: Uploaded, added releases, and hit Submit to my top three agencies.

One set, one step at a time.
That’s how I’m approaching it this month—and it’s exactly how I built this income stream from the ground up.

Starting something new in your business can feel overwhelming.
But adding stock photography shouldn’t be a massive stretch. Especially when you already have the content sitting there, collecting dust.

Be honest…
Do you have a drawer full of old hard drives?
A forgotten Dropbox folder you're paying for every month?
Client galleries from years ago that you never even looked at twice?

Those aren’t just memories. They’re potential passive income.

You don’t need to carve out an entire shoot day to start making stock work for you.
Just set aside 20 minutes a day (or an hour a week) to comb through your archives and start submitting.

Here’s how I recommend starting:

  1. Set a daily or weekly calendar appointment with yourself. Just 15-60 minutes.
  2. During that time, review one folder of images from your archives.
  3. Select photos that buyers can easily use in marketing. Prioritize images with clean backgrounds, negative space for text, clear focal points (like a person, object, or scene), or a seasonal theme. Avoid anything with brand names or logos unless you can photoshop them out.
  4. Make minor edits if needed, add relevant keywords, and submit them.
  5. Repeat next week with a different folder!

Remember: the best-selling images aren’t always the most polished or epic.
It’s the real stuff. The honest moments. The things you forgot you even captured.

Your archives likely contain exactly these kinds of images!

The beauty of this approach is its simplicity.

No new shoots to plan, no additional equipment needed, and no major time commitment. Just leveraging assets you already own in a new way.

Let me know how it goes!💫

xo,

Aubrey

Hi Reader, The most successful stock photographers I know aren’t sitting around waiting for their dream shoots. They’re out there creating their own opportunities. Last February, I flew to Vegas (yes, that Vegas) to shoot… a dental office.Scrubs, suction tools, and all. 🦷 But it wasn’t some stiff, fake-smile, posed nonsense.I photographed real dental staff doing their actual jobs: appointments, procedures, interacting with patients. No actors pretending to be hygienists. No plastic teeth....

Hi Reader, I started stock photography to survive the slow seasons as a wedding photographer, now I do it as a love letter to life. Let me explain. Inside my membership, Stock Photo Besties, we’ve been talking about turning the mundane into art. And it got me thinking... What if stock photography isn’t just a way to make passive income, what if it’s the nudge you need to fall back in love with your life? Or at least notice the tiny, beautiful moments hiding in plain sight? I was journaling on...
